Built in 1964 and designed by the firm now known as Spillis Candela/DMJM, The Miami Marine Stadium is considered to be one of the most noteworthy modern architectural landmarks in Miami. During the 1960s-1980s, the venue held many concerts by the sea, Easter sunrise services, and other community events. The Stadium has been shut down and unoccupied since Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

The Friends of The Marine Stadium is a newly formed coalition of individuals and groups, under the umbrella of Dade Heritage Trust. The goal of the group is to preserve the Stadium and renew its role as an iconic gathering place and symbol of the new Miami.
